Description

What We Do

We build on the strength of our research and development expertise and a distinctive, entrepreneurial culture that encourages diversity, innovation, creativity, sustainability, and, simply, fun. Since inception, our mission has been to find a cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension and other life-threatening diseases. Toward this goal we have successfully gained FDA approval for five medicines, we are always conducting new clinical trials, and we are working to create an unlimited supply of manufactured organs for transplantation.

We are the first publicly-traded biotech or pharmaceutical company to take the form of a public benefit corporation (PBC). Our public benefit purpose is to provide a brighter future for patients through (a) the development of novel pharmaceutical therapies; and (b) technologies that expand the availability of transplantable organs. At the same time, we seek to provide our shareholders with superior financial performance and our communities with earth-sensitive energy utilization.

Our company was founded by an entrepreneur whose daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. She sought to find treatment options and a cure for her daughter and patients like her. We are founder-led, and relentless in our pursuit of “medicines for life”. We continue to research and develop treatments for cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, and other orphan diseases.

Millions worldwide are living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or diabetes. Management and maintenance therapies are ongoing, expensive and often undermine the person's quality of life. Their only hope for cure is an organ transplant. At Iviva, a subsidiary of United Therapeutics Corporation, we are working to transform the status quo by developing advanced organ therapeutics that can offer patients with organ dysfunction a cure and a normal life.

How you’ll contribute
The Associate Scientist, Cell Production & R&D is responsible for helping to develop and implement robust process methods for the reprogramming of somatic cells and differentiation of iPS-derived cells for development of autologous tissue engineered kidney grafts. This individual must be an innovative and self-motivated scientist with demonstrated ability to develop and improve existing stem cell derivation and differentiation techniques, creatively solve difficult problems, should be excellent at troubleshooting, and able to work well independently and in collaboration with a diverse team of multidisciplinary scientists and engineers diligently and carefully. This role, and team, will be tasked with supplying cells for R&D cellularization efforts in man-made kidney scaffolds, and with developing GMP level protocols and production in preparation of IND filing.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of robust process methods for the production of primary and/or iPS-derived renal cells
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of methods to mature iPS-derived renal cell phenotypes functionally and develop and implement physiologic assays to test this function in vitro
  • Contribute to the production effort, including internal and external production, to provide sufficient cells for R&D cellularization efforts of advanced organ therapeutics
  • Contribute to academic and industry collaborations and facilitate tech transfer activities from outside collaborators to internal laboratory
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of analytic methods to characterize quality and suitability of iPS-derived cells for generation of 3D printed organs
  • Design and execute laboratory experiments that lead to the successful achievement of program objectives
  • Foster and leverage synergistic interactions with other sub-groups in Organ Manufacturing (e.g., Bioink, Scaffold Production, Cellularization), as needed
  • Participate in selection, purchase, and implementation of laboratory equipment
  • Develop, write and review laboratory methods and protocols
  • Assist in evaluating new technologies for future process development
  • Interact with manufacturing team to ensure process and methods for production of iPS-derived cells are GMP ready
  • Author and contribute to scientific publications and present data at scientific conferences
  • Author and contribute to IP and regulatory filings
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
